If someone asked you who invented the light bulb, you may say that the great man invented light bulb was Edison. But I have to tell you something more. In fact, electric lighting is much earlier than light bulb. Two kinds of electric lamps, the incandescent lamp and the arc lamp, were invented during 19th century.
The first man who demonstrated arc lamp in 1806 was Humphrey Davy, but the blinding light could bring harm to people who use it and could not offer power for more than a few minutes. So it was impractical and people cannot accept it.
