Google Power Meter Project

Posted 04-14-2009 at 11:45 AM by zach

I was just reading about the Google Power Meter project. Basically it allows you to see your energy consumption using meters on your appliances in near real time. The idea is that if you can measure your power consumption and see how and when you are using the most power then you have the ability to make small changes that can greatly reduce your power consumption. That's great but the problem with this is that the power consumption of that that server actually only accounts for a very, very small portion of the power consumed by a web hosting company. There's networking equipment, backup servers, heating and cooling the data center, lighting the data center,

Couple of cool sites I found on Stumble Upon.

I thought this was pretty cool. A group of gardeners the that take over urban places to do their gardening. Our cities would look a lot nicer if there were more people doing this. And the added vegetation probably help filter some of the pollutants out of the air and water.

Here's the link: http://www.guerrillagardening.org/

This site has a great tag line, "real food, real farmers, real community" and they a locator for find local farmers and farmers markets in your area.

Here's the link: http://www.localharvest.org/

I find a lot of great sites and info on Stumble Upon. You can find me on SU at: http://greenerpeople.stumbleupon.com/

Anyone interested in writing for Greener People?

Posted 08-15-2008 at 09:15 PM by zach

I don't have a lot of time right now so I haven't been able to keep up with posting new green tips. Everyone has got green tips so I was kind of thinking of moving them to the side line and starting to put some feature articles on the home page and start putting blog posts from different users on the home page.

The biggest things I could use help with:
  • writing articles/tips/news/etc.
  • ideas for the site
  • forum moderators/leaders
Anyone interested?

Posted 06-12-2008 at 03:41 PM by zach

I wanted to do a quick blog entry about this thread on the forum: http://www.greenerpeople.com/forum/g...reen-town.html

It's really an amazing story and they've turned a tragic incident into something really great. A new greener beginning for their town after a tornado destroyed it.

They are being recognized with a TV series on Discovery's new Planet Green Channel. The series premiers this Friday on Discovery Channel and June 15th on Planet Green. Tune in to see their amazing story and maybe learn a thing or two about being greener!
