Use Less Shampoo and Soap
Most of us use way more shampoo and soap than we need.* Try using smaller portions, dime-size rather than quarter.* When you are half way through the bottle, add some water to dilute it.* It will work just as well.
Or you could shave your head like me and not use any shampoo at all!

yup, we only need a quarter sized shampoo dollup and a nickel sized for conditioner at most. and conditioner should never be used on the scalp! plus, if you look for online discounts for beauty products, alot of companies are having sales now. Kaia House gives great discounts if you sign up for their newsletter and they have their own line of economical products too. (plus, free shipping saves on gas haha!)

Dont think im ready to Shave my head just yet ;-) However i have cut down on the amount of product i use on my hair. Diluting it is a very good idea, but i feel the majority only do this once they are running out and dont have time to get some more and not because you consciously trying to reduce the amount used! You could keep an old shampoo bottle and when you get a new one pour half of its contents into the old bottle and then dilute both halves. ??

Great idea about using less shampoo and soap!
Not so much into shaving my head yet either, but who knows what the future might bring?

I use Elixir organics cuz you only need a dab and it actually lathers... the only place that sells it though is Save-on-foods in canada...they sell it at elixirorganics.ca but shipping seems to take a long time....

haha! Excellent idea with shaving head! I really want to do this... but I'me a girl... my fiance will not understand me... actually he wants me to grow hair longer and I believe the longer you grow hair the more product you will eventually need to use. I switched to soaps lately. I use Beauty and the Bees herbal shampoo bar (Tasmanian brand). Shampoo bar is economical in use and gives rich lather (no SLS, I checked...). I've read somewhere, people in the past washed their hair with soap (not commercial brand with fragrances, obviously hee hee). But I need to use a conditioner after washing hair (about 5-10 ml apple cider vinegar diluted in a cup of water, big cup, not metric...). It does not smell vinegar if you don't overdo it.

Curly-Haired Girlie Girl
Try something different, guys, go NO 'POO. I stumbled across this idea last year, and was intrigued, but scared. I've got the kind of curly hair that eats small objects and occasionally tries to strangle me in my sleep. I *had* to shampoo at least every other day, and could only detangle while my hair was wet and loaded with conditioner, in the shower.
I'm now pleased to say that with the investment of a boar bristle brush ($20, Shopper's Drugmart) and a wide-toothed comb, my hair hasn't seen shampoo or conditioner since the middle of May. I experimented a bit at first with baking soda and apple cider vinegar (egads, that stuff reeks in the kitchen, imagine what it's like pouring it over your head in an enclosed shower!), but finally found that it's easier and the results are just the same when I simply use water and "scrub" my scalp with my fingertips.
Oh, and I do still use products from time to time, but REALLY rarely. After that, I just wash my head with my usual soap...tee tree oil stuff or "regular" natural soap stuff.
If this sounds gross, please remember that I grew up the daughter of a hair dresser and had this whole hair care routine ground into my brain from a very young age. I'm 35 now, so this was a hard step to take! Still, my hair is softer than ever, absolutely NOT greasy, ever, and my curls are much more bouncy than they've been for years.
A bonus is the lack of shampoo bottles that we need to rinse and recycle! Go Google "no 'poo movement" and see what you get.
