Lightbulb Stop annoying junk mail.

If you are like me most of the mail you get these days is junk mail. Credit card and insurance offers come almost everyday. There’s a way to stop most of this mail and keep it from every being printed, mailed in a gas guzzling truck or ending up in the recycle bin.

You can stop a lot of this mail by telling the Direct Marketing Association you don’t want it. You can sign up on their website or print out a form and mail it in with $1. This will stop a lot of junk mail because a lot of mailers are members of the DMA. Here’s where to learn more: https://www.dmachoice.org/MPS/proto1.php

You can also Opt Out of all those pre-approved credit card offers by telling the credit bureaus you don’t want them. This website will help you contact them all. https://www.optoutprescreen.com/

It may take a few months for the junk mail to slow down. You can also contact companies that mail you and tell the you want to receive all your communication via email or have them add you to their do not mail list.

Thumbs up

This definitely worked for my parents when they used the UK equivalent. I've been fairly lucky, whenever I fill in forms I tend to look for the box to tick to reject mailings and I've never got on to the junk mail lists. Well, not at my current address. Apparently I still get quite a few things sent through to various student addresses - promotional offers for nightclubs and racecourses. I hope the new tenants make good use of them

I have a good way to stop repeat junk mail. I take all of the postage paid envelopes and switch the contents and mail them back. Almost anyone I do it to takes me off their list.

That's pretty funny! I think I heard that from a comedian or something but I hadn't heard of anyone actually doing it.

Default Green use for Junk Mail

As long as I can verify that the print on the paper is soy based I use junk mail & newsprint to act as mulch in my veggie garden helping to keep moisture in the ground.

I wouldnt suggest throwing junk mail and newsprint in your compost pile unless you verify that it the ink is soy
based.

I always wondered about the inks and chemicals in paper and if they were really compost friendly. I know a lot of paper is bleached, is there bleach or other chemicals in paper that I should worry about if I wanted to use paper in my compost or my garden as a weed stop?

Thanks for the info on how to stop the junk mail. I have also heard of people putting stickers on their mailbox stating "no junk mail". If everybody did that, maybe they would stop producing it.

I keep going to that 'opt out' link and opting out but the catalogs just keep on coming.

Thank you! xD It's very nice to know we'll be saving our share of trees, and the advertisers should actually be happy to know that you aren't interested because they aren't wasting their money on sending BS to someone who just isn't interested.
