Green Eco Community in Cornwall I have a friend who has just moved into an eco village in Cornwall, very funky designed houses but they also include state of art eco products for greener living. Lots of information on their website about what products they have use have a look at uk green building design. My friend will soon be getting paid for the surplus electricity she will make from the local electricity company as long as the sun comes out! -
Welcome to the forum, Percy. I have previously heard of similar initiatives in Cornwall. Are these related to the overall idea of "Transition Towns"? -
Welcome to the forum Percy. I like the idea of green towns & getting paid for excess electricity. Saskatchewan has a similar incentive for electricity. I'm looking forward to when I can afford solar panels. -
Cornwall and eco villages this is interesting stuff, and I agree with Matt, I would welcome solar panels if I could afford them! For now, I'm just a poor college student! the Cornwall village is unique and if you have any other information about the experience of living in one (from your friends point of view or your own thoughts) I would love to hear about it! I'm currently writing an article for my online journalism class on this topic of eco villages (mainly UK ones as I'm American but attending a UK school!) that I was inspired to write because of your comments. If you have any more information, Percy, about the electricity money that your friend will get and how that all works I would appreciate it! -
more info I think they have some information on their blog, have a look at eco homes blog.
thanks -
That's awesome. Reminds me of Greensburg from Planet Green. Would love to see more of these communities popping up. -
Green community heroes This is a great initiative! The Energy Saving Trust want to give recognition to our green community heroes, so we've teamed up with the Guardian for the very first Green Community Heroes awards.
The awards are to recognise those community groups who are getting together and making a real change in their community by reducing their carbon footprint. The winners will get featured in Society Guardian, providing national press coverage for your project.
There are 5 categories that communities can enter:
- Best rural community project and urban community project
- Most innovative project
- Most sustained activity by a community group
- Outstanding contribution by an individual
You can find out more and details on how to apply here: http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/...mmunity-Heroes
Good luck!
Clare
