Yes, it's growing plants on rooftops. There are many benefits like reduced heating and cooling costs and more air filtering vegetation in urban areas.

Anybody out there with a green roof have an increase of run-ins with pests? (bugs / rodents / etc)...?

Also, any ideas for a Canadian, who has snow for 3 months of the year?

I think it's all about how you plan to build the house, what kind of structure. In time, i have heard it's much better then now days board roof, and tile. It's not from grass, actually, its from reed. And the roof cant colaps if the internal structure its being made good. Also a very good insulator, is the clay wall, basicly this type of masonry started to use reed roofs. Hope you will try it out..its really interesting..

This shouldn't be that difficult the main 2 factors would be weight and mold. So you definitely want to speak to a local contractor and probably an engineer to ensure that the joist used are rated for the added weight. I would think that you could just use a green board, like you would in a tile shower for an vapor barrier, but you need to ensure that you are not going to have leaks that you lead to mold.
