Default Tis the Season

The season when folks will be hanging miles upon miles of lights around the inside and outside of their homes and trees and shrubs.

Replacing conventional light strings with LED light strings can add up to some pretty big savings during this time of year. LED lights use 90% less energy than conventional lights. Running LED lights instead of conventional at 6 hours a day will save you about $30 a month.

Another advantage of LED light strings. Unlike conventional lights that disapate energy as heat, LED lights do not. They are always cool to the touch. This makes them much safer to place on your tree and home.

I've seen some pretty good prices on LED strings this season too, 100 light strings for between $20 and $25 each.

Default Dreaming of a green Christmas?

If you want to hang lights outside, try solar powered fairy lights that don't give off any carbon emissions.

We've just posted a cool article for having a green Christmas on the Energy Saving Trust. It has sustainable and fair trade gift ideas for him, her and the kids. As well as green ideas for decorating your home.

These are really great suggestions! I know it's March, so it's not really the "appropriate time", but I was discussing Christmas' environmental impact on another forum, and no one was offering any suggestions on how to "green up" Christmas! I will pass these suggestions along.
