Talking Go green by changing your email habits

I just read this and thought it was very interesting. What do people think?

I couldn't quote you any specific figures, but I think the amount of totally illegitimate SPAM email would be exponentially larger than the amount from forwarded email traffic that never gets opened.

And this system would not reduce the bandwidth by much if everyone still opens the link and views the attachment anyway, would only save on a few upload trips. Especially as everyone is using web based email these days which sort of accomplishes the same thing.

Also I think any gains made by the site would be undone by the fact that the site's primary goal is to encourage people to find this stuff and send it on. ie.

Quote:
In the process, you can have fun with the site. You get access to loads of amusing stuff that others have posted, and you can share it on facebook, myspace or even on your blog. You can invite your friends, which will earn you points also.
So as an IT person who would know, I don't think much of this site's claim to saving energy.

I don't really have an opinion one way or the other on them donating a portion of their earnings (from ad's) to good causes.. but it's funny that if this revenue is to grow then it is because they have succeeded in getting more people to use more bandwidth downloading this type of content.

Most of the forwards stop with me. I get so many of them that they become annoying. I do not want to pass the annoyance on to others.

Agreed with Matt. Forwards are one of the most annoying emails that I get regularly. A close second is the "you've won the Nigerian lottery" emails. I'd say stop the forwards instead of making them green.

I think that while there is probably something to this, there are other places to focus your energy that would provide much more "green" payback.

I agree with you all about this. There is something to it, and at least it's nice to see people out there are trying to think of anyway possible to help this broken earth. I think it's something to smile about!

I heard, recently, that the USPS is trying to push legislation in order to charge users for sending emails. Has anybody else heard anything about this recently? I hope that our congressmen are smart enough not to allow this!
